SHOWREEL

A QUICK BIT ABOUT ME

I love pictures, light, shadow; the magic of adding a little light here or taking it away from over here, and being able to make the audience feel something or notice something different about the scene. I love how I can help tell a story based on a lens choice or how a shot is composed. Most of all though, I enjoy that production is a team sport. There’s nothing like the feeling of achievement that happens when everyone is working their hardest, pushing through the challenges of the shoot, finding a creative solution and it comes out even better than the plan.
I’ve been working as a camera operator and DP, mostly for corporate pieces, for the last 12 years in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve worked at the top level of that business, for some of the worlds most recognizable brands. My desire to work in feature film and episodic television has always been a strong pull at my core though. This fire was fanned over the last 18 months as I transition into DP work for music videos and documentary work, specifically the film Searching for Augusta, recently picked up by American Public Television for national and international distribution through PBS. It was for this work that I was honored with my second EMMY. So I packed up my family and decided to move back to the west coast, to the heart of production, Los Angeles.
I have a high level of skill, technical and personal. I have worked with nearly every major digital camera system on the market and with all manner of lighting and support equipment. My documentary style work has taught me to be nimble, think on my feet and solve problems quickly. I’m not a DP that has only one way to work or light or that gets frustrated when I don’t have my usual set of tools. I have usually traveled with a producer and a director and hired all local crew across the US, Canada and Europe, so I’m good at meeting new people and fitting in with a crew quickly.
I am seeking a position in a camera department. I’d love the opportunity to operate camera under a DP from whom I can learn the LA area methods and studio system during my transition from documentary style work to large crew episodic and feature work while at the same time lending my skills and experience as an operator.
